I received an award

Out of the blue I was invited to receive an award by SADS UK for saving a cyclist’s life at the end of last year.

This was a National Lifesaver Defribrillator Award and I was honoured to be presented with it at a lovely and moving ceremony in London in October 2015.

The local press were kind enough to publish an article. Here’s the link.

I am very happy to say that Bob Harwood is now fully recovered and we have been out cycling together. I have to admit that he is a much fitter and more able cyclist than me – I had to work very hard to keep up with him!

Did you know that CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)  alone will keep blood circulating until the emergency services arrive BUT the survival  likelihood is only 6%?  However the  use of a defribrillator increases the success to 60%.

If you are interested in learning how to carry out CPR, use a defibrillator, and other first aid measures, Knutsford Heartstart run excellent free training courses once a month (donations welcome!). Details are here in this link.
